Portia Lee James DeGeneres, well-known professionally as the pseudonym Portia de Rossi, is a well-known model from the United States acting, actress and philanthropist. She changed her name legally at the age of 15, adopting an identity she liked 'Portia' after the Shakespearean character in 'The Merchant of Venice.' Portia feels that it was her most adventurous act she's done in her life and claimed that the desire to alter her name was due to her struggle with her sexuality. Portia was introduced to the film industry by appearing in the romantic-comedy drama movie "Sirens," starring Hugh Grant. She has also acted in numerous American television shows and movies like 'TooSomething and 'Nick Freno The Licensed Teacher, 'Arrested Development, and 'Better off Ted.' She gained massive popularity by playing the role of an Boston- based lawyer named "Nelle Porter" on a comedy drama television series called 'Ally McBeal. The character she played was the primary comic relief in the show.
